The May T-Bar 2-dayer was a great tournament with calm winds and pleasant weather, SSBA anglers fished post spawn patterns and looked for the last round of spawning bass to fill over fifteen limits over the two day tournament.
SSBA anglers were full of anticipation for Sunday as four anglers were within 1 pound of the Saturday leader Brian Ogden who stuck a solid 11.97 lb. sack on the first day of competition.
Sunday belonged to Eric Ocampo who landed the only stringer of the tournament over 12 lbs weighing in a second day weight of 12.32 lbs., good for a total tournament weight of 24.10 lbs. and 1st place honors. Eric picked up his second SSBA win of the year with focus and concentration as he targeted post-spawn bass, great fishing Eric!
The team to beat was Jimmy Helton and Tom Pooler, they boasted over twenty pounds each day to win the team pot on both days, good job Tom & Jim!
April Tournament Recap:
Calm winds and great weather awaited anglers as the April SSBA T-Bar Tournament kicked off on lake mead after a few tough Mohave tournaments in February and March. The fishing was better than expected as seven anglers were able to catch limits and a few kickers made all the difference in the world for the top finishers.
SSBA would like to welcome Phil Romito and Brian Ogden as its newest members, Brian and Phil both had impressive first tournaments. Brian managed 12.43 lbs, good enough for 4th place. Good fishin Brian!
The question so far this year is who can stop Mark Fisher? The back to back SSBA AOY captured his first win of the year with an impressive 5.57 lb. BFOTT kicker to give him a total tournament weight of 15.11 lbs! mark has been fishing excellent and the April T-bar Tournament was no exception.
Not only is Mark whacking 'em off the front of his Champion but his non-boater, Southern California's Luc Drouin recieved 2nd place honors by bagging a total tournament weight of 13.27 lbs. In Luc's bag was a massive 4.96 lb. largemouth, good enough for second big fish of the tournament.
Mark and Luc's team weight tipped the scales at a whopping 28.38 lbs!
March Tournament Recap:
The March 2-day tournament was a windy one to say the least. Anglers fought rough water and the Mohave wind was relentless. The fishing was tough for March as anglers searched both north and south to find the next bite.
Kyle Gibson's February 5.36lb. bass was outdone on Saturday by Eric Ocampo. Eric was fishing a staging point with a dropshot when the 6.46 lb. toad smashed his worm. Eric was fishing alone on Saturday and struggled to boat the monster bass but succeeded and took over the current 2010 SSBA Big Fish of the Year title! After blanking on Saturday, SSBA veteran Don Sollberger made a Sunday run boating two fish including a one 4.24 pounder to weigh in 7.04 lbs, good enough for runner up. Good fishin' Don!
The spring fishing maestro Doug Gaskill won his second SSBA tournament of the year weighing in 12.66 lbs over the two days. Doug spent both days searching shallow water to find a few bass that would go for his baits. Doug's March win also places him in first place in the 2010 SSBA Angler of the Year race!
